EUGENE, Ore.-- The Eugene Airport reported an increase in travelers over the last few weeks, getting closer to numbers the airport hasn't seen since before the pandemic.

Airport officials said the increase is due in part to spring break. Last week, the airport saw nearly 79% of travel capacity compared to the same time in 2019. One day over the weekend exceeded numbers the airport saw for that same day in 2019. Data for 2021 is being compared with 2019 because it is considered a normal travel year.

Overall, the airport is seeing an increase in travelers. For weeks they've been averaging 70% of 2019 levels. Nancey Guadagno was traveling through Eugene and she said it seems a lot safer than at the beginning of the pandemic.

"People are paying attention to the rules, following the rules, which means there hasn't been a lot of drama on board or in the airports," Guadagno said. "Once you're fully vaccinated, you feel so much safer."
