Both measures will appear on the May ballot.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Voters will have a lot to chew on come May after the city council on Monday placed three more measures on the spring ballot.

The first would create an appointed auditor position who would report to the council, similar to the city's police auditor.

Jennifer Yeh, Claire Syrett, Greg Evans, Alan Zelenka, and Chris Pryor voted yes. Emily Semple was out of town.Councilors Mike Clark and Betty Taylor voted no.

A competing referendum, one that would create an elected, fully independent auditor position, will also be on the May ballot, thanks to a petition drive from a grassroots organization.

Councilor Alan Zelenka told KEZI 9 News that if both measures get over 50 percent of the vote, the one with the highest vote total will be approved. Voters will be allowed to vote for both, one, or neither.

Also Monday night, the council referred two parks and recreation measures to the voters. One would authorize the sale of bonds to raise nearly $40 million for new parks and other improvements, including a renovation of the Sheldon Pool. The other is an operating levy for maintaining parks and rec facilities.

Clark voted no, saying there were too many tax measures on the horizon, and that higher property taxes are driving up the cost of housing in the city.

Election day is May 15.
