Eugene man faces charges in string of burglaries

EUGENE, Ore. – Police have identified a suspect in a string of burglaries in Eugene.

Andres Varillas, 31, of Eugene was identified through video and forensic evidence, police said. He was initially arrested in one of the cases on May 28 and has since been tied to all of them.

Three west Eugene businesses reported being targeted over a two-week period between May 20 and June 2.

The Bi-Mart at 4780 Royal Avenue was burglarized five times and the Big Lots at 1960 Echo Hollow Road and the El Charro Mexican Restaurant at 4712 Royal Avenue were each burglarized once.

Police said the suspect was seen on video breaking windows and entering the stores to steal merchandise.

Varillas faces six counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree attempted burglary and seven counts of second-degree criminal mischief.

Between the cost of repairs and the theft of merchandise, the combined loss is about $15,000, police said.
