EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene police arrested a chain-wielding robbery suspect within 10 minutes of being dispatched early Thursday.
Michael Gary Reed, 33, of Eugene faces charges of first-degree robbery and interfering with a police officer.
At 1:37 a.m. officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at Jacksons Food Stores, 6085 W. 11th Avenue.
Police said they learned a man had grabbed cigarettes from a display case before slapping the counter with a metal chain and demanding money. The suspect left with cash and was seen driving southbound on Crow Road in an SUV.
A nearby officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and performed a traffic stop. Police said the driver, later identified as Reed, didn’t comply with the officer’s commands.
Officers took Reed out of the vehicle. Reed struggled, and it took multiple officers to detain him.
