Eugene police holding illegal fireworks turn-in day

The Eugene Police Department is collecting illegal fireworks on Sunday, July 1st. Anyone who turns their fireworks in will not be cited.

EUGENE, Ore. -- If you have illegal fireworks, the Eugene Police Department is offering you an opportunity to get rid of them without getting cited.

Illegal Fireworks Amnesty Turn-in Day will be on Sunday, July 1st. Police say illegal fireworks are dangerous and can cause fires. In addition, possession of illegal fireworks is a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of $2,500 and six months in jail.

The turn-in event will take place at the parking lot at 2nd and Chambers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
