UPDATE -- Eugene police left the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

When police first arrived, witnesses tell KEZI 9 News that there were at least a dozen police cars in the area, with several officers taking cover behind their vehicles. Police said once they entered the home and discovered the two bodies, they informed the public there was no ongoing threat to the community.

KEZI 9 News spoke to neighbors in the area, who said the older couple that died were some of the best neighbors they could've asked for.

"There wasn't one time that he didn't come by our house, which was about twice or three times a day every day, that he didn't -- if we're out in the yard -- boy, it's wave and honk every time," said neighbor Dwight Wiltsey.

Other neighbors told KEZI that this isn't the first death investigation in their neighborhood.

Back in 2015, police were called to the area just a few hundred feet from the home where Friday's deaths occurred. At the time, police said they were responding to a murder-suicide and arson.

The investigation is still ongoing. Stay with KEZI 9 News for the very latest.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene police are on the scene near the intersection of Teralee and Langers lanes conducting a death investigation.

Two people were found dead following a bullet wound call at 4796 Taralee Lane. Police responded to the home just after 1 p.m. on Friday.

Police secured the residence. There is no threat to the community, a police spokeswoman said.

"I didn't see anything that was anything other than trying to get a hold of the situation and keep the situation under control and keep the neighborhood safe," neighbor John Rubio said. "So that's all a good thing from my perspective."

KEZI 9 News talked to other neighbors who said an older couple lives in the home. They said they're great people, and they're heartbroken to think something could have happened to them.

The investigation is ongoing.
