EUGENE, Ore. – For the third time in 10 years Eugene voters have passed a measure that will help improve roads and safety for people and bicyclists.

Voters approved ballot measure 20-275 Tuesday night, which is $51 million bond to improve roads and safety for everyone.

KEZI spoke with Jon Ruiz the Eugene City Manager. He said the bond measure does not start until 2019 and lasts until 2023.
Ruiz said the money will be used to finish 91 road repair projects on 78 streets throughout Eugene. He said some of the improvements include reconstructing and repaving roads.

Ruiz believes the measure will provide the city with an economic boost.

“In a more general sense people are able to move around this community in very efficient ways, that allows businesses to thrive, allows them to come in and invest in our community and create economic prosperity," said Ruiz.

He said the city will also invest $5 million into safety improvements for people who bike and walk.

Ruiz said the two original bond measures are from 2008 and 2012. He said once they complete the 2012 bond work the city will have repaired more than 110 streets.
