CORVALLIS, Ore. – An explosive device was found on a Corvallis property on Friday.

Oregon State Police’s explosives unit responded to the scene on Donovan Place at about 10 a.m.

Authorities say the property owner discovered a World War II mortar in some scrap metal. Two other mortars were found in scrap metal the man had taken to a scrapyard earlier.

All three mortars have been removed.

The man’s father, who recently died, worked at Camp Adair removing scrap metal. Camp Adair was a US Army training facility near Corvallis in the 1940s.

The explosives unit is certified through the FBI National Bomb Squad Commanders’ Advisory Board.
