FALL CREEK, Ore.-- One man is dead after veering off the side of the road and crashing down a hill near Fall Creek Saturday afternoon, officials said.
According to the Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire and Lowell Fire departments, first responders received reports of a crash near the 38000 block of Pengra Road around 3 p.m. The driver was alone and was pronounced dead at the scene.
James Ansell lives on the road and witnessed the whole thing. He said it all happened very fast and he tried to help as much as he could.
"The car was engulfed in flames -- the windshield was busted out," said Ansell. "I was looking all over to see the car and I didn't see him and then I saw (a body) up the hill so we ran up the hill again."
Ansell said the car then drifted off of the road and fell down an embankment, ejecting the driver. He said the car was on fire as he attempted CPR on the driver.
He said the car was going 20 miles over the speed limit when it fell down the embankment. He also said he sees people speed down this stretch of the road far too often.
