SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The son of Richard Marshall, who was killed in Springfield this week, described his father as a kind and compassionate man who was involved in the community.

Richard was a father and a grandfather. His son, Evin Marshall, said everyone around him could feel Richard's warm and approachable energy. No matter where "Big Rich" went, he brought love and positivity, Evin said. His father taught him to show people kindness in every situation. Evin said his father was always bragging about him and his sisters to strangers, saying how proud he was of their accomplishments.

Richard moved to the metro area in the 1970s and had lived in the area ever since. He lived and worked on the Food for Lane County Youth Farm for the past decade. That's where Evin's fiance found him deceased Monday night. He said police didn't start investigating his father's death as a homicide until a day later. 

Investigators are still looking for a suspect and they're combing through all of the evidence at the scene.
