Fatal crash closes part of Highway 101

Drivers should expect delays.

WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. -- A fatal crash closed part of Highway 101 on Wednesday. 

At about 10:45 a.m. a Douglas County deputy attempted to traffic stop on a vehicle south of Reedsport on the highway, and the car drove off and crashed near mielpost 217, Oregon State Police said.

OSP confirmed the driver is dead.

They said they found items appearing to be explosive devices, and the OSP explosives unit investigated.

The highway was closed for several hours, and no detour was available. 

All lanes reopened by 4 p.m.
