ALBANY, Ore. -- School will start on time as usual at South Albany High School Wednesday morning after a fire broke out Tuesday night.

The Albany Fire Department said the fire started just before 7:30 p.m. and was in the new construction portion of the gym at the school.

In a message to parents and students on their website, Greater Albany Public Schools says a youth basketball team was practicing at the time and was evacuated immediately.

They say no one was injured and the fire was contained to one area.

The Albany Fire Department will continue to monitor the area as they investigate what caused the fire.

The extent of the damage is unknown at this time.

Greater Albany Public Schools says the gym will not be used until clean-up is complete. The district is also working to relocate practices and athletic competitions.
