SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Investigators are working to figure out what caused a Union Pacific Rail Road trestle at South 2nd Street in Springfield to go up in flames Monday morning.

Reports of the fire came in around 1:08 a.m. The flames threatened the nearby Hexion Chemical plant but crews were able to stop its spread.

"The fire is under control and contained to the wooden ties above land. The bridge is being inspected and train traffic has resumed at a slower speed as a precaution," a spokesperson for the railway said.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
