EUGENE, Ore. -- A veteran struggling with disabilities lost everything in a fire in Eugene Monday afternoon.

The fire destroyed the fifth wheel trailer where a friend was letting him stay in the 800 block of West Third Avenue just before 3 p.m.

Julie Ruiz, who owns the trailer, said the man is blind and had been living in the trailer in her backyard.

She said she hopes somebody will help him.

“He was a Vietnam vet and he is just on social security right now,” Ruiz said. “He’s struggling with his health issues and he’s blind.”

The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Anyone interested in helping the veteran can email Ruiz at ruiz9863@msn.com.
