FERN RIDGE, Ore. -- Five recreational vehicles owned by members of the Eugene Yacht Club were destroyed in an overnight fire Monday.
According to club leaders, the fire broke out inside one of the trailers on the property around 1:30 a.m. The fire then spread to several other RVs. All of them were empty and no one was injured.
"We were really grateful to (Lane Fire Authority). They've been great partners over the years and did a phenomenal job keeping it from spreading further,” said club Vice Commodore Matt Sprick.
The RVs are owned by members of the club and used during the summer as a place to stay between sailing. Sprick said the fire shouldn't impact operations at the club.
Lt. Dean Chappell of the Lane Fire Authority said the fire caused $200,000 in damage and was started by an electrical short in a refrigerator in one of the RVs. The fire destroyed five RVs and damaged one.
The Eugene Yacht Club is located at the northwest corner of Fern Ridge Reservoir.
