Fire destroys house in Coos Bay

COOS BAY, Ore. – A fire in Coos Bay destroyed a house early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 4 a.m., and found heavy smoke coming from multiple areas of the house and heavy fire in the south end of the house.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the main fire, but remained on scene for a couple of hours extinguishing a fire in the attic and in an adjoining structure.

The property was valued at $195,000 and is considered a total loss. There were no injuries to the people who lived in the house, however, three family pets died of smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical, and it is not considered intentional.

The Coos Bay Fire Department was assisted by the Charleston Rural Fire Protection District and the North Bend Fire Department through the Coos County Mutual Aid System. Bay Cities Ambulance and Pacific Power also assisted.
