THE DALLES, Ore. -- The deadly Substation Fire that has burned over 79,000 acres is now 92 percent contained, and firefighters hope to have it fully contained in the next few days.

Residents of surrounding communities are turning their efforts toward recovery after the blaze. Farmers have been putting their lives on the line in order to save everything they have from burning in the fire.

Despite two days straight on his tractor in the fields, Brandon Welk still lost 500 acres to the Substation Fire.

"This is what we do for a living out here,” Welk said. “That’s how we eat. That’s all we got.”

The dollar loss just from the yield totals as much as $300,000.

Work has begun to recover the charred fields. A number of GoFundMe sites are available to help the communities recover.
