EUGENE, Ore.-- The crew of a private airplane flying into Eugene Airport wasn't sure if it would be able to land safely late Sunday morning, prompting an emergency response before it was eventually able to land without issue.
According to Eugene Springfield Fire, first responders received word that the crew of a large private aircraft containing 24 passengers was unsure if they could maintain proper airspeeds as they approached the runway around 11:15 a.m. Officials are unsure if the issues were related to a mechanical issue on the plane or a malfunctioning instrument.
Authorities said both Eugene Springfield Fire and Lane Fire Authority responded in preparation for a potential crash. Multiple ambulances, fire engines and more were dispatched to handle possible fire or injured passengers.
First responders were called off once the flight landed safely.
According to officials, first responders were relieved that there was no crash, but the incident was a good exercise to make sure crews are prepared in case the worst occurs.
