EUGENE, Ore. – Crab season is finally back and business are excited after a delayed season.

Ryan Rogers is the owner of Fisherman’s Market, which sits on 7th street.

He said the crab delay took a big hit on his business, especially during the holiday season.

“We do a lot of crab dinners and I saw many tables last night with crab dinners,” Rogers said. “A lot of our customers know we have crab and that's what we're known for.”

Rogers said part of the reason for the delay was that fleet and processors were not budging on price negotiations.

He said fishing was scheduled for January 15th, but due to the delay it started on the 18th.

Fisherman’s Market got about 1,500 pounds of crab Friday and by Saturday evening it was all gone.

Saturday evening they got a second supply and fishermen are still at sea working to get more crab.

“We’ve been down this month considerably 15 to 20 percent,” Rogers said. “Last year we had crab at this time, it plays a big role on our business for sure.”

Rogers said having connections with other suppliers really helped him.

Now that crab season is back he expects crab prices to go up pretty soon and this week to get busy.
