SALEM, Ore. -- Neither the GOP recall petition nor Michael Cross' "Flush Down Kate Brown" petition managed to gain the needed signatures to trigger a recall of Oregon's governor.
A petition effort needed to reach 280,050 signatures to be successful.
The chair of the Oregon Republican Party, Bill Currier, did not turn in the party's petition due to a lack of sufficient signatures.
Cross' petition was turned in Monday afternoon at about 2 p.m., the Oregon Secretary of State's Office said. While petition organizers reportedly estimated having 290,000 signatures, the office said there were 23,926 sheets submitted, and each sheet cannot contain more than 10 signatures, meaning that the petition fell short of the required number.
The Oregon Secretary of State's Office said there is no need to go to the next step of individually matching signatures with voter registration cards.
The deadline was 5 p.m. on Monday.
Brown will not face a recall vote.
