SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Food for Lane County has opened its farm stand for the season in Springfield.
The stand gives people going in and out of Riverbend Hospital an easy way to get fresh produce. You can find everything from lettuce to tomatoes and kale.
As the season goes on, there will be even more variety.
Sales from the stand raise money for the youth farm, and it teaches youth farmers what it takes to grow high quality produce. They grow, harvest, process and market all of it.
“I love being able to provide people with examples and samples with the produce that we have available right now, so they can see what they can do at home with what they buy and how easy it is,” registered dietitian Cecilia Jacobson said. “I mean, we whipped up a smoothie really quick before we came out here, so it’s simple, easy.”
Last year, they raised $22,000. The stand is open every Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Riverbend.
