Forest officials increase personal firewood limit

According to forest officials, the winter storm in late February caused thousands of trees to fall encouraging them to increase firewood limits.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Due to the winter storm, the Willamette National Forest is allowing up to 12 cords of wood per household.

For $20 dollars you can purchase two cords of wood, that is enough to fill for pick-up trucks.

According to forest officials, the winter storm in February caused thousands of trees to fall encouraging them to increase their firewood limits.

“We hope the community takes advantage of this program. It is a cost-effective way to collect firewood and will help us reopen roads sooner and remove downed wood that could later dry out and become fuel for wildfires” said, Tim Lahey, Timber Program Manager.
