Eugene, Ore. -- Oregon Ducks point guard Payton Pritchard was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 26th pick of the 2020 NBA Draft on Tuesday night. Pritchard had long been projected to be selected in either the late first or early second round.
Pritchard won the Lute Olson and Bob Cousy Awards following the 2020 season as well as being named the Pac-12 Player of the Year and consensus first-team All-American. Before the season was cut short due to the CoVid-19 Pandemic, Pritchard was averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game on 47% shooting and 41.5% from 3 point range.
Over the course of his career, Pritchard made the NCAA Tournament twice, heading to a Final Four in 2017 and Sweet Sixteen in 2019.
The Celtics finished the 2019-2020 NBA season with a 48-24 record and lost to the Miami Heat 4-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
