EUGENE, Ore. – A former mixed martial arts fighter handed out toys to nearly 100 kids in the community ahead of the Christmas holiday. The toys were collective donations from those in the community.

In addition to handing out messages, Jimmy Jennett also offered mentorship opportunities on Sunday.

“Kids don't have to do drugs and alcohol to be cool,” said Jennett. "You can come hangout with us or it's whatever you want to get into.”

Jennett speaks from personal experience. He said he had a rough life growing up and wants to use his story to redirect the lives of many young people.

He has a non-profit called Checkered Past. Through it, he and other MMA fighters encourage kids and teens to make healthy decisions that will set them on a path to a brighter future.

His non-profit provides seminars on self-respect, drug prevention, and anti-bullying.
