SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The game Fortnite is the new craze that has kids and even adults spending hours on.
KEZI spoke with Abe Capouch who manages Video Game Headquarters in Springfield.
He said Fortnite has been a phenomenon for the last several months with adults and children playing worldwide.
Capouch said a number of parents have reached out to him for advice on how to monitor their children’s time playing the popular game.
“The best thing they can do is really just pay attention to what the game is,” Capouch said. “Sit down and play with it a little bit with the kid and make sure it's okay for them to play, something they think is going to be healthy and good for them. And if they're okay with it give them a ‘you can play it this much time’ and be the parent."
The game is under the Battle Royale genre, with the goal of being the last man standing out of 100 players. He said the game is free-to-play, so users can simply download it on their playing devices, which is the reason Capouch said they don't sell it at the store.
Although they don’t offer Fortnite, he said its success has actually benefited their sales.
"If anything we've seen improved sales,” Capouch said. “So you're going to get the popularity of Fortnite and just the Battle Royale games in general, people are clamoring to.”
He said another reason why the game is so appealing, is because of the cartoony graphics and the opportunity users have to build their own forts as they try to rise to the top.
Capouch believes that Fortnite's popularity will continue to grow as developers continue to update the game.
