EUGENE, Ore. -- A man who said he's been friends with Charles Landeros for about a year and a half spoke exclusively with KEZI.
The man, who refers to himself as Plaedo, said he and Landeros met while doing community gardening work and said that's what they were doing the day before the incident at Cascade Middle School.
Plaedo told KEZI he first learned of the incident through the news, but didn't know Landeros was involved.
He said he did know that Landeros' daughter goes to Cascade Middle School and said he texted him to ask if everything was okay.
He said he never got a response, and hours later, found out his friend was shot by police.
"They (Landeros) were most happiest when they were with their kids," he said. "I think that being a parent was what brought them perhaps the most meaning and joy in their life."
Plaedo said he understands all sides of this incident and said he feels for the teachers and students at the school.
