SWEET HOME, Ore.-- A fundraiser was held Tuesday evening for the families of the two children involved in a tragic jet ski accident last month.

Dozens of people attended a free screening of the Goonies at the Rio theater in Sweet Home. Donations were asked for at the door and attendees gave anywhere from $5 to $1,000. All the money will be donated to the families of Kennedy Swenson and Zachary Maynard.

The six-year-olds were swimming at Foster Reservoir when a runaway jet ski hit them and sending the two to the hospital with serious injuries. Zachary later passed away as a result.

Todd Branson organized Tuesday's fundraiser with the Rio Theater's owner and said he doesn't know the family personally; he just felt the need to help them out.

"It's just an unfortunate circumstance those kinds of things happen," Branson said. "You got a wonderful community out there that knows when it's time to help each other out and this is one of those times."

If you would like to donate to the Maynard or Swenson families, you can drop off a check or cash at Holley Church.
