ALBANY, Ore. - The Greater Albany Public School District voted Monday night to bring on Rob Saxton as interim superintendent.
The Board voted 4-1 to approve the contract presented to Saxton which states he will be interim superintendent until June 2022.
Saxton formerly worked as a deputy superintendent on the state level.
This decision was one parents were divided on. Over the past several meetings, there have been protests outside from parents upset over the firing of the previous superintendent, Melissa Goff.
Saxton said he appreciates that parents care enough to be involved.
"I think it's a challenge what's underway here for sure," said Saxton Monday night. "But I do really like the fact that people care enough to state how they feel and be active and say, 'what happens to our kids and the education of our kids in Albany is important to us. Enough that were passionate about it.'"
103 people submitted public comments regarding the search for an interim superintendent and regarding Saxton.
Saxton will be paid $150,000 for 190 days of service.
