Green Hill Road closed after car crashes into gas box in Eugene

At around 6 a.m. police and fire closed Green Hill Road between West 11th Avenue and Royal Avenue due to a gas leak.

EUGENE, Ore. – A gas leak was reported at around 3:17 a.m. Monday morning on Green Hill Road. Police said a car had crashed into a gas box in front of the Greenhill Humane Society.

Family of the driver called to alert police to the crash, police said. 

Officials then closed off Green Hill Road between West 11th and Royal avenues due to the gas leak.

Eugene Springfield Fire and Northwest Natural Gas were on scene investigating the gas leak.

The gas leak was reportedly under control just before 6:30 a.m.

Police did not give an estimate on when they plan to reopen the road.
