EUGENE, Ore -- A Eugene woman has set up a donation site to help both frontline medical staff and local restaurants.
Lissa Casey started a GoFundMe page to buy gift cards for local restaurants that will be delivered to PeaceHealth's RiverBend Hospital so that doctors and nurses and medical professionals can get themselves a hot meal.
She said her original goal of $1,000 was reached in just under 12 hours. She has since raised the goal to $5,000.
"They're heroes to me, and I know that they are so dedicated to their patents," Casey said. "They are facing their own fears and running into the fire, and that to me is amazing."
She said she hasn't picked out which local restaurants they will use but is open to suggestions and hopes to hear from hospital staff.
Casey is an attorney at the law firm Arnold Law. The company said they will match the donation up to $1,000 and are urging other law firms to do the same.
PeaceHealth issued the following statement: "PeaceHealth is immensely grateful for our community’s support and encouragement. Lissa Casey has reached out to our COVID-19 response donations coordinator and we look forward to learning more about her effort to thank and encourage our caregivers."
