SALEM, ORE. -- Governor Kate Brown proclaimed March 12th as Girl Scout Leadership Day in Oregon at the State Capitol building.

Today is the 106th anniversary of the Girl Scouts in the U.S.

On March 12th, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia for the first Girl Scout Meeting

The Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington also honored Governor Brown by making her an honorary lifetime member.

"The Girl Scouts empower generations of girls and women, showing you are never too young to get involved, make a difference, and have your voice heard," Gov. Brown said. "It's my hope that as women take on leadership roles in their communities, in the Capitol, and in service organizations like the Girl Scouts, that more girls grow up knowing that women can change the world."
