EUGENE, Ore. -- Gov. Kate Brown ordered all K-12 schools in Oregon to close their doors beginning Monday and running through the end of March.
The order was announced late Thursday night.
Schools must close beginning Monday and stay closed through March 31.
Brown says the decision was made due to the public health threat posed by coronavirus. She said she had "little choice," but warned that closing schools by themselves was not a cure-all.
"I want to be very clear: sending Oregon children home will not stop the spread of the coronavirus," she said.
Brown says districts must develop plans to continue nutritional services during the closure.
Lebanon Community Schools announced they will be closed on Friday in response to a possible positive case of COVID-19.
This is a developing story.
