Grass fire breaks out near Winchester

A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause was cigarette related.

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Fire crews stopped a grass fire from spreading near the Winchester Dam Fish Ladder Tuesday evening.

The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m., and crews arrived within minutes of the call.

1/10th acre of grass and brush burned before crews were able to stop it.

Firefighters remained on scene the fire for about a half-hour, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.

A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause was cigarette related.
