JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- After crews responded to multiple fires in the Fern Ridge area, those fires are now under control.
Authorities asked the public to avoid multiple areas as fire agencies fight the fires, including:
- Arnold Lane and Demming Road in Elmira, Oregon
- Clear Lake Road and Kirk Road along the Long Tom River on the north side of Fern Ridge Reservoir
- Red Oak Lane and Highway 126 approximately 4 miles west of Veneta
The fire on the north side of Fern Ridge Reservoir was a large grass fire. The first call came in at about 2:45 p.m. and within fifteen minutes there were reports the fire was about an acre in size. Mutual aid from area fire departments was called in to help knock it down.
A plume of smoke could be seen from the KEZI 9 News Weathercam in downtown Eugene.
Winds were coming from the north.
