Greenhill warns about adopting pets during holidays

Officials at Greenhill want to remind you about about the lifelong commitment that comes with an animal.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Around the holidays people love gifting animals, especially puppies, but officials at Greenhill want to remind you about the lifelong commitment that comes with an animal after the tree gets put away and the lights come down.

Megan Brezovar at the Humane Society says they have animals surrendered to them weekly -- and for that very reason, they will not adopt animals to people who want to give them as gifts. "When we adopt out animals here... it doesn't matter what day it is because to every animal, every day is a holiday," she said.

She also said they are compassionate about people's situations and will accept animals that are either found as strays or whose families can no longer take care of them.
