EUGENE, Ore.-- Hayward Field performed a test run of its light and sound system Wednesday night.
Around 8 p.m. speakers blasted music that could be heard for blocks around the stadium. Groups of people stood outside the stadium and listened to live music that brought back memories of a time before the pandemic.
When the sun went down, the lights came on and a dazzling display of different colors lit up the main tower. University of Oregon President Michael Schill said Wednesday night was just a preview of what is to come after the pandemic.
"The best is yet to come," Schill said. "When we start filling Hayward Field with people and we start having races and athletic events, it's going to be great."
It is still unclear when the finished product will be revealed to the community, but it will be finished by the Olympic trials in 2021. The stadium will be able to hold a maximum capacity of 30,000 people.
