EUGENE, Ore. -- Local health officials say Lane County is in a plateau with no new confirmed cases today, and local hospitals are ramping up testing for COVID-19.

"I think it's heartening. It shows two pieces, it shows first of all there's no big increase in cases and secondly it shows there is a big increase in testing. So I'm heartened by both of those I think those are both good signs," said Dr. Patrick Luedtke, senior public health officer with the county.

Luedtke said that its important note that with a huge increase in tests, health officials are now able to properly gauge where the virus is coming from.

Jason Davis, with Lane County Public Health, said that our community received a B- on the social distancing grading scale over the weekend, which Davis said is good news since it was a sunny weekend in Eugene.

"Pretty good, especially given the fact that it's sunny in Oregon. That's not a common thing, and it's very tempting to go spend long periods of time outside with your friends. So I think that that B- is a win, I think we can do better obviously. I'm not aware of any enforcement that happened over the weekend or really any need or calls," said Davis.

Davis said the way they come to the grade is by looking at certain indicators, such as how many people are driving on the road, going into essential stores, going into non-essential stores, and how many non-essential stores are still are open.

Compared to our grade on Easter weekend, which was a C, Davis said we are looking up and doing well, especially on sunny days when it's difficult to stay inside.

Davis also noted that they determined the woman in her 50s who tested positive for COVID-19 in Lane County got the virus from her employer.

Health officials are now working with that employer to stop further the spread of the virus.
