Highway 42 fire burns 2 acres

According to officials a bird flew into power lines and sparked the fire.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A bird is to blame for a grass fire near Highway 42, three miles southwest of Winston.

Fire crews arrived on scene Monday at 5:20 p.m. and reported a quarter-acre fire burning in a previously mowed field. According to officials a bird flew into power lines and sparked the fire.

Strong winds moved the flames and after 15 minutes of arriving on scene, firefighters stopped the spread which burned a total of two acres.

Crews remained on scene until 7 p.m. mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.
