JASPER, Ore. -- The Hills Creek Fire is under control, officials from the Oregon Department of Forestry say.
Crews responded to the fire on Hills Creek Road southeast of Springfield around 4 p.m. on Sunday and worked through the night and most of the next day to bring down the flames.
Since then, the fire has burned 13.1 acres of land, but it has not touched any homes.
The fire is up to 60% contained and crews will be working throughout the night to get to 100% containment.
Tiffanie Blake, a neighbor in the area, said she’s glad the fire has been mostly contained, but that doesn’t stop her from fearing the worst.
"Hearing that the winds were going away was a little bit of relief,” said Blake. "But knowing how fast a fire can spread and how the winds can change, you're always at unease and wondering where it's going to go and what's going to happen."
ODF also said they still don’t know what caused the fire, but investigators are on scene trying to find out.
