SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center went into lockdown Thursday morning after hospital staff reported seeing an armed man in the parking lot.

Springfield Police said hospital staff called them just after midnight regarding a man carrying an AR-15 style rifle around the parking lot.

The hospital went on lockdown as a precaution. According to police the hospital was lockdown for two hours.

Barbara Schaefers was just about to leave the emergency room when staff rushed her and others to a secure area deeper in the hospital.

"All security was everywhere. We could not go near the door. There were tons of us," Schaefers said. Schaefers said she felt safe and that staff made sure no one was near windows or able to access the parking lot.

During the lockdown police said they searched for the man in the parking lot but did not find him. After investigating leads, the man was identified and police found there was no threat to the hospital.
