Human remains found by hikers in Sweet Home area

Investigators believe the remains are connected to a 2011 missing persons case.

SWEET HOME, Ore. -- Human remains were found in the Sweet Home area near Upper Calapooia Drive.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said Sheriff Jim Yon received reports on Monday, April 6, of possible human remains in the 41000 block of Upper Calapooia Drive.

This is the second set of human remains found in the Sweet Home area within the last week.

The remains were found on Weyerhaeuser property by hikers in a densely forested area.

The sheriff’s office said Weyerhaeuser cleared an overgrown road so investigators could access the scene.

Investigators believe the remains are connected to a 2011 missing persons case.

The sheriff’s office is working with the State Medical Examiner’s Office to confirm the identify and cause of death.
