CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Hundreds are at risk after a data breach at Oregon State University, officials said.

University officials said a hack from May could affect 636 students and students’ family members.

An employee’s email account was hacked by individuals outside the university and used to send phishing emails across the nation, officials said. Documents in that employee’s email contained personally identifiable information.

Steve Clark, vice president for university relations and marketing, said there’s no indication the information has been seen or used, but OSU is notifying those who may have been affected. The university said they will offer them a year of free credit monitoring services.

In the meantime, the university is reviewing its procedures and IT systems it uses to guard information.

For more information, contact the university’s customer service call center at 541-713-0400.
