CANYONVILLE, Ore. (KDRV) — One northbound lane of Interstate-5 remains shut down due to a vehicle fire that spread to surrounding brush, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

ODOT said that the closure is just south of Exit 103 for Riddle/Tri City, about five miles north of Canyonville.

The area is close to where the Milepost 97 Fire raged in 2019, one of the only major wildfires in southern Oregon during that season.

Earlier, the freeway was completely closed in both directions while fire crews responded. ODOT later sent an update saying the the southbound lanes and one northbound lane had been opened to traffic.

Fire crews are still on the scene mopping up, but reportedly have stopped the fire's forward progress.
