DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Just over a month ago, officials with Oregon State Police reported a string of shootings on Interstate 5 between Douglas and Josephine counties. Since then, officials said that shooter is still on the loose.

The shootings began between milepost 100 near Canyonville and milepost 67 near Grants Pass. Initially, officials said five vehicles were hit with bullets. Now, they said eight have been hit. 

On Tuesday, officials said the area of the shootings has been expanded to Jackson County.

Officials said there have been no injuries reported. They also said there is no threat to the surrounding communities, as they believe the shooter is focused on I-5.

Some Canyonville residents told KEZI 9 News they’re concerned this investigation is taking longer than it should, especially with how many people travel on I-5 a day.

“I think a month is a little long,” said Joey Quintana. “I know they’re trying their best to find him, but we need to get more people on it, especially if people started shooting people on the freeway.”

Others said they won’t let this investigation keep them from living their lives.

“I think about it every so often, but it doesn’t stop me from going down the road,” said Scott Holsclaw.

Officials are asking those with information to contact the Oregon State Police Southern Command Center.
