Infant dies in crash near Cannon Beach

A Roseburg woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was injured.

CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. -- A man is in jail following a single-car crash that killed an infant and sent a Roseburg woman to the hospital.

Oregon State Police say the crash happened Monday at 6:04 p.m. 

Rony Tomas-Garcia, 23, of Seaside, was driving southbound on Ecola State Park Road in Clatsop County when the Mazda he was driving veered off the road, struck a tree, and landed on its top.

Passenger Esperanza Martin-Ramirez, 20, of Roseburg, was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Oregon Health & Science University. Her condition is unknown. A 3 1/2-month-old baby girl died in the crash.

Tomas-Garcia received medical treatment before being booked into the Clatsop County Jail on charges of manslaughter, assault, reckless driving and DUII.
