SWEET HOME, Ore. – A jet ski accident sent two children to the hospital on Monday.

It happened at about 2 p.m. at Lewis Creek Park east of Sweet Home.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said the personal watercraft hit a crowd of people in a swimming area.

A 23-year-old man was operating the jet ski when he lost control. Deputies said the watercraft sped toward the shore, hitting multiple people.

Two children have life-threatening injuries. One child was flown to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland and the other was first flown to RiverBend Hospital in Springfield but was then airlifted to the same Portland Hospital as the first child.

There are no updates at this time on the children’s conditions.

An additional injury was reported later to Lebanon Community Hospital.

The man who was operating the jet ski is cooperating with law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to come forward. You can reach Detective Colin Pyle at the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 541-967-3950.
