Jury convicts Sweet Home woman of attempted murder

A Sweet Home woman was found guilty of attempted murder on Wednesday after shooting her husband in December 2019, leaving him injured but alive.

SWEET HOME, Ore. – A Sweet Home woman was found guilty of attempted murder on Wednesday after shooting her husband in December 2019, leaving him injured but alive.

According to court documents, a jury found Mary Rochefort, 64, guilty of attempted second-degree murder in addition to first degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Authorities received a report of the shooting at about 1:40 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2019. It happened in the 1300 block of Clark Mill Road.

Police said officers arrived to the scene and found Mary Rochefort returning to the home in a car. They then found a 59-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.

The man was conscious and alert and was taken to a local hospital, police said. His injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

Rochefort will be back in Linn County Circuit Court on May 25 for sentencing.
