ROSEBURG, Ore. -- It can be very scary for patients when they’re diagnosed with cancer. That’s where nurse navigators come in at the Community Cancer Center in Roseburg.

It’s their job to help patients navigate the health care system, from the simple stuff to things like finances so they can focus on their treatment.

Oncology comes with its own unique set of complications during and after treatment, nurse navigator Jessica Schulze said.

It’s her job to talk to patients, find out what’s going on in their lives and what they need.

“The biggest one I’ve come to find is financial assistance,” Schulze said. “That's kind of key. A diagnosis of cancer comes with a physical and emotional impact, but there's also a substantial financial one that comes with it as well. They're suddenly hit with doctor's appointments, imaging orders, studies they have to do and oftentimes they're not prepared to take on that financial burden.”

You can contact the Community Cancer Center for more information.
