ROSEBURG, Ore. – The Community Cancer Center in Roseburg is now offering virtual support for two of their more popular groups – cancer support and smoking cessation.

Not as many people are taking part now as in their former face-to-face meetings. But they’re seeing about 25% of what they normally see dialing in, and it’s catching on.

Angelia Freeman with the center said they are using telehealth for patient visits, which is encrypted and confidential, and it’s been popular with the patients.

“I’ve talked to a few of the patients who have used that in our scenario with their primary care, and they say in both instances they’ve enjoyed being able to be in their home where they feel safe and also have that outside communication and have conversations with their doctor or their health care team,” Freeman said.

She said they’ve made safety changes around the office as well, so when they start welcoming back more patients, they’ll be ready.

They’ve stopped all outside groups from coming in to use their conference rooms and they have a very stringent cleaning schedule on a two-hour rotation.

Also, patients are asked to come alone and wear a mask. All their staff members are wearing masks.
