EUGENE, Ore. -- Over a years worth of change in the water fountain at the 5th Street Public Market, in Eugene, is going to a good cause.
All those coins added up to more than $1,300 which will all go to Kidsports.
Kids from Kidsports and some 5th Street Market employees worked to clean more than three years worth of change so they could cash it in at summit bank.
The kids got to participate in a science experiment cleaning the coins, and it will all be donated back to the program to go into the scholarship fund.
Bev Smith, director of Kidsports said the scholarship fund helps families who are on federal free lunch program so they can put their kids in sports -- something she says it so important.
"Last year we helped over 4,000 children with the gift of play who otherwise wouldn't have played without that scholarship assistance," said Smith. "It's a real live event so this is live but it also gives kids the gift of play which is hugely important for a lot of them"
